4th Sunday in Ordinary time

Fridays with Father • Faith Studies • World Day for Consecrated Life 2021
DATES OF NOTE:
CHURCH NEWS:
Each Friday in February, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Father Markus will be hosting a drop-in Zoom room, open to everyone!
Students, long-time or new members of our faith community, not-yet-members, people of other faiths, curious people of no faith... drop in and say hi.  Sr. Mary may pop in occasionally or Paul, our campus coordinator, you just never know who will be there.
We could all use a little fellowship. Hope we'll see you there!

Fr. Markus' Sunday Reflection last week was The Word of God. Did you watch it?
We will have another one for you tomorrow!  Click the graphic to check it out!
Did you catch last week's Church Update?
Join our community in visiting other parish communities, virtually!
So much good is happening throughout the church in this time of need and so we will be offering live-stream feeds and websites from other parishes throughout this time of lockdown, in addition to Fr. Markus' Sunday Reflection.  Join us in finding the Lord in so many places, until we can come to our spiritual home again!

Our mission continues!  Great thanks to all for your continuing contributions, especially those who have signed up for recurring donations through our website.  We continue to need your support.  For those who prefer to donate through weekly envelopes, these can be dropped off at the office trailer mailbox, between 11 am & 4 pm, on Wednesdays or Saturdays.
This past Thursday, students and other community members gathered online for The Source. After an inspiring talk that called us to “be not afraid” (which you can watch by clicking above) and commit our lives to Christ without fear, and a heartfelt testimony of God’s work in a student’s life, we were blessed with the opportunity to hand over our fears and burdens in prayer and through praise and worship. Praise God for such a smooth and moving event!
Students are also preparing for the beginning of faith studies this week. After an intense period of outreaching to friends and other students (some from other continents!), over 130 people will be participating in McMaster faith studies this semester. We couldn’t be more grateful for the leaders’ courage in outreach, and for this constantly increasing number of people saying “yes” to growing in their relationship with God. The Holy Spirit is always moving within this community!
  • Your name? Norm Klassen
  • How long have you been a member of our faith community? Five years
  • How did you choose Canadian Martyrs, and what do you like most about being part of this community? We live locally. I became a member of the Communio Circle of the Diocese of Hamilton (which meets in Waterloo) as soon as I moved with my family to southern Ontario, me to take a job at St Jerome's (UW), my wife to take a job at McMaster. When I started thinking seriously about becoming Catholic, a priest-friend from the Communio group suggested that I start attending Mass, and that's how I came to be at Canadian Martyrs. What I like most about being part of this community is that it reminds me that I'm Catholic, which is something I'm so incredibly happy about.
  • Your favourite food? Bread and wine; then fish and chips.
  • Favourite movie or book? Movie: Lives of Others (German); Book: Kristin Lavransdatter; Brideshead Revisited; Descent into Hell; The Bell; Macbeth; Hamlet; Reason and Emotion; Till We Have Faces; On the Trinity; Surnaturel; The Parliament of Fowls
  • Tell us a boring (or interesting!) fact about you? In Oxford, my wife and I lived with and served Lord Franks, a former British ambassador to the U.S., head of Lloyd's Bank, author of the Franks Report on the Falklands crisis, and the only person to have been the head (at different times) of two Oxford colleges.
Prior renovations (the addition of the old meeting room) had necessitated the removal of the stained glass windows that had been in place in the sacristy. With these latest renovations, we are able to reinstall them, and that is what is in progress in this photo. Check out the other pics on our website of the building progress!
If you would like to have a Mass celebrated for a special occasion, on behalf of a family member, a friend, or a deceased loved one, please call the office to have that intention put into the calendar.

World Day for Consecrated Life will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. Please pray for all those who have made commitments in the consecrated life!
We extend our deepest gratitude to those in consecrated life who have served our faith community over the years. May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond generously to God's gift of their vocation.
