Yes, Zoom fatigue is a thing.
You might think the last thing you want to do is sign yourself up for yet another Zoom event.
BUT, there is a difference between zooming for school or work, and engaging in challenging and interesting conversation via video interface! One can zap your strength, and the other can invigorate you!

"10 out of 10, would Alpha again!"

And hey, if it doesn't fill your bucket after all, you're not locked in (to Alpha, anyway...)  You've got literally nothing to lose!

Fr. Markus' Sunday Reflection last week was titled Ite Ad Ioseph, which literally means Go to Joseph.

~Morning Prayer~

As the Chaplaincy’s endeavours get underway this semester, student leaders are taking time each Monday morning to pray together for the ministry and everyone involved. While we miss the early mornings in the peaceful and dim church, we’re grateful for the technology that allows us to keep praying together from our homes.
Join Father Markus, Sister Mary, and Paul every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3-4 pm. The Catholic Café is a time for us to gather together as a Chaplaincy, discuss with one another, and live in Christian fellowship. Everyone is welcome to join!
Join us via Zoom at this link: https://tinyurl.com/cathcafe

Join us for an evening of fellowship, testimony, and praise and worship.
All community members are invited!

On January 24, 2021, the Universal Church will celebrate “Sunday of the Word of God,” an initiative established by Pope Francis as a day “devoted to the celebration, study and dissemination of the Word of God.” (Apostolic Letter, Aperuit Illis, n. 3).

Why focus on Sacred Scriptures?

Because, in the words of the Holy Father, “A profound bond links Sacred Scripture and the faith of believers. Since faith comes from hearing, and what is heard is based on the word of Christ (Rom 10:17), believers are bound to listen attentively to the word of the Lord, both in the celebration of the liturgy and in their personal prayer and reflection” (n. 7).

Pope Francis adds, “devoting a specific Sunday of the liturgical year to the Word of God can enable the Church to experience anew how the risen Lord opens up for us the treasury of his word and enables us to proclaim its unfathomable riches before the world” (n.2).

Here are some ways to mark this day:

  • Go through your gift lists for this year, and consider giving the Bible as part of your Christmas, birthday or wedding gifts.
  • Resolve to read one chapter of the New Testament each day; write down what the Holy Spirit says to your heart. This will become your spiritual diary and a treasure for years to come.
  • Look up artworks that depict passages of Scripture and discuss them with your children.
  • Find and play board games related to the Bible
  • Make a list of your favourite Bible verses and categorize them according to the virtues of hope, faith, and charity.

MARRIAGE TIP OF THE MONTH - Marriage Tip 106: Marriage unites two people together in an intimate partnership, allowing each person to feel loved and cared for by their spouse. God made us relational, so marriage meets our need for another in our lives and fulfills our deepest need to be known. Yet, sadly, too many married people feel lonely. So, why not make 2021 a year of joy? Talk to each other about your hopes for the future; tell your spouse about good things or bad that have occurred at work; share a joke, funny story or a frustrating event from your day. When we share our lives with another we connect more deeply, feel part of the other's life and loneliness disappears. An easy way to keep intimacy intact and loneliness away. From the Vatican: Biblical Reflections (Day 6)

  • Your name? Rheanna B.
  • How long have you been a member of our faith community? 1.5 years
  • How did you choose Canadian Martyrs, and what do you like most about being part of this community? I chose Canadian Martyrs because of it's proximity to McMaster, and because I knew a lot of students attended! I was also looking for a strong faith community as a new Hamiltonian and medical student.
  • Your favourite food? I really love vegetables (I hope that's not weird)
  • Favourite movie or book? Man's Search for Meaning, Good Will Hunting
  • Tell us a boring (or interesting!) fact about you? I'm a convert to Catholicism!
Paint is going on the walls! This space is the boardroom, and in an as-yet-undetermined-time, those raw pipes and such sticking out of the wall will be the coffee station! Check out the other pics on our website of the building progress!
If you would like to have a Mass celebrated for a special occasion, on behalf of a family member, a friend, or a deceased loved one, please call the office to have that intention put into the calendar.
