FROM THE DIOCESE:
To Inform, To Encourage, To Heal
Thursday, August 19, 2021
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

How does the Catholic Church understand itself? What is the mission and character of the Church? Why do we need it?

On August 19th we will host Dr. Josephine Lombardi, who will deliver the final Credible Catholicism lecture for this summer: "Ecclesiology: What is the Church?" Dr. Lombardi works as an Associate Professor of Pastoral and Systematic Theology, and as the Director of Lay Formation for St. Augustine’s Seminary in Toronto.

Credible Catholicism is for Catholics of all ages and backgrounds, so we hope it is useful and instructive to you wherever you are in your journey of faith!

If you missed either of the previous lectures, you can find them on the Canadian Martyr's website. Join us in person at Canadian Martyrs, or online via our live stream. Be sure to bring any questions you have!

Join here on August 19 @ 7pm!
Last week, on Wednesday, July 28th, Fr. Markus, Sr. Mary, Paul O'Hagan, and Erin Holmes met for our offsite planning day. Typically, we take the whole day to go somewhere away from the hustle and bustle and outline our strategic planning for the year. This time, we had an "onsite" at the new Canadian Martyrs Student Centre.

Given that it was our first actual full-day strategic planning meeting in quite a long time, there were some things we didn't get to as thoroughly as we wanted to, so we have 2 more day-long sessions scheduled this week. We have so much brand-new and "old-favourites" programming planned for this next year, and we can't wait to share it with you!

Please keep us in your prayers as we work through our planning. If we are to succeed as a community of faith, it is crucial that we plan appropriately, and listen carefully to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
August 28; September 4 (weekly schedule resumes)
Just a reminder to be sure to refer to the following places on the website for the most up-to-date information regarding schedules and updates at Canadian Martyrs:

Great thanks to all for your continuing contributions, especially those who have signed up for recurring donations through our website.  We continue to need your support.  For those who prefer to donate through weekly envelopes, these can be dropped off at Mass on Sunday, or into the office mailbox (which is located just to the right of the school-facing side door of the office building)!

The student leadership formation for the summer is now over! Last week we gathered (some in person, and some online) at Camp Brebeuf with the chaplaincies of Guelph and Waterloo/Laurier. The students spent time in fellowship, and time planning for the year. Now our student leaders are better equipped to discern where they can share their talents this year to build up the ministry and help in the mission that unites us.

Thank you for all your prayers this summer. We continue only through God's grace!

Our Cornerstone project is pretty much complete, with the exception of a few small final details, and all of the furniture. Nothing new and exciting to post, picture-wise.

So, instead of posting an update, how about a throwback?

Here you can see someone (likely the architect) reviewing the plans, as the walls of Canadian Martyrs go up, circa 1949! I wonder where, in the current iteration of the building, he is standing...

Look just how far we've come, and just consider where we might go!

If you would like to have a Mass celebrated for a special occasion, on behalf of a family member, a friend, or a deceased loved one, please contact the office to have that intention put into the calendar.
