Who is God, according to the Catholic Church? What is He like? On July 29th at 7pm Canadian Martyrs Church and Chaplaincy will host the second lecture in our new Credible Catholicism series. Fr. Jason Kuntz will join us in-person to speak on Theology, the Catholic view of who God is, and what we do when we do theology.
Credible Catholicism is for Catholics of all ages and backgrounds, so we hope it is useful and instructive to you wherever you are in your journey of faith! Join us in person at Canadian Martyrs, or online via our live stream. Be sure to bring any questions you have!

There's a good chance that we are stuffing and stamping the Summer Edition of the Gloria Dei as you are reading this, and that it will be going into the mail this afternoon!
That'll give you a reason to check your snail-mail box!
Let us know if you don't receive one so we can get you on our mailing list for the next edition (sometime in September)!
Rest assured we'll be sending out a copy electronically as well, so you won't miss it either way!

Although we've managed to get in some part-day long-term strategic planning meetings in while under lock-down, on July 28, we are hoping to finally get to take a day for the SLT to gather, offsite, remind ourselves of our mission and goals, make sure that our events and plans align with that, and brainstorm about new and exciting ways to bring our mission to the faith community.
On the docket will possibly be a facilities grand-opening...?

Great thanks to all for your continuing contributions, especially those who have signed up for recurring donations through our website. We continue to need your support. For those who prefer to donate through weekly envelopes, these can be dropped off at Mass on Sunday, or into the office mailbox (which is located just to the right of the school-facing side door of the office building)!

We are partway through our summer leadership formation! Thank you for your prayers! Two upcoming events will round off the summer for the student leaders:
This weekend, the student leaders will be gathering once again to participate in our summer formation process. They will be learning some of the basic skills of evangelism. Specifically, they will be practicing listening to and accompanying other people in coming closer to our Lord.
In three weeks, on July 31st, they will be joining with the other chaplaincies in the diocese for the annual Tri-Chaplaincy Leadership summit. There they will join in prayer and learning with the other leaders and take some time to plan out the course of the 2021-2022 academic year.
The school year is fast approaching; soon they will be on campus, sharing the gospel and bringing more students into a relationship with our Lord and with our community of faith. As always, please keep them in your prayers!

I know what you're probably asking yourself... "What in the world am I looking at, here?"
Reasonable.
It doesn't look like much right now, but, it's one of those small details that is ultimately going to add so much to the aesthetic of the place.
This used to be a door, an entrance to the basement of the church, from the side. When the old meeting room was removed, it left us with a bit of problem-solving to do. What best to do with the gap in the brick?
After considering a few options, we landed on this, a little alcove (or niche, not sure which is most accurate, architecturally speaking), with a richly stained wooden backdrop, for displaying a statue. I don't think we've decided exactly what kind of statue will go here, but it will greet you as soon as you enter the student center/office space!
Who do you think should go here?

Pope Francis announced the establishment of a World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly at his Sunday Angelus in January of this year. The chosen day for the yearly celebration is the fourth Sunday of July, since it coincides with the feast of Sts. Joachim and Anne, Jesus’ grandparents.
During his presentation, Pope Francis reminded us about grandparents: “Their voice is precious because it sings the praises of God and safeguards the roots of peoples. They remind us that old age is a gift and that grandparents are the link between generations, passing on the experience of life and faith to the young. Grandparents are often forgotten and we forget this wealth of preserving roots and passing on.”
This year, the first World Day celebration will take place on Sunday, July 25 and the chosen theme is, “I am with you always”.
