Now that we have a solid setup, and established procedures for live streaming at the church, we are looking for volunteers to cover the 11:30 Sunday Mass, so that we can continue to share our community's faith and mission with those who are not yet able to attend Mass in person, and with others all over the world!
No tech knowledge is needed; it’s as simple as hitting the correct number on the remote to change the pre-set camera angles. We’ve even got a “map” of the pre-sets for you to refer to, and what camera angle is best for each part of the Mass.
Like any other volunteer team at Canadian Martyrs, we'd like to add you to the team and assign Masses for 1 – 3 months in advance. As always, if any dates don’t work for you, you can let us know in advance and we'll schedule around your availability.
Please drop us a line at canadianmartyrshamilton@hamiltondiocese.com if you're interested!

Over the summer months, we'll be reducing the frequency of the Community Update. Our next emails will be sent out on July 11, August 8, August 29 and resume regular weekly distribution as of September 5 . Additionally, moving forward, our emails will go out on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
As members of the SLT take well-deserved holidays, and we (hopefully) have restrictions loosened, there may be changes to the schedule that won't be immediately communicated via email. Please be sure to check the following places on the website for the most up-to-date information regarding schedules and updates at Canadian Martyrs:

God our Father, we give you thanks and praise for Fathers young and old.
We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation; may they find the courage and perseverance to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice.
We pray for own fathers who have supported and challenged us; may they continue to lead in strong and gentle ways.
We remember fathers around the world who children are lost or suffering; may then know the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow.
We pray for men who are not fathers, but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice, like our own spiritual father, Father Markus.
We remember fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers who are no longer with us, but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love.
Happy Father's Day!

Great thanks to all for your continuing contributions, especially those who have signed up for recurring donations through our website. We continue to need your support. For those who prefer to donate through weekly envelopes, these can be dropped off at Mass on Sunday, or into the office mailbox (which is located just to the right of the school-facing side door of the office building)!

Last weekend, the student executive led a leadership training session for returning and prospective leaders. The event helped students to get to know one another a little better, and it introduced them (or re-introduced them) to the mission and vision that we have as a faith community.
Later this summer, we will have another training day that will focus on how to intentionally accompany another person in their journey of faith. This is, as it were, the nitty-gritty of evangelism, ecumenism, and witness. This kind of leadership is essential for the health and growth of our community. It is essential for inviting people into closer relationships with our Lord.
Please continue to keep the student leaders in your prayers as prepare for the coming academic year.

Another small milestone has been achieved this week, on the Cornerstone Project! Our elevator is fully functioning, and we've been able to remove the accessibility ramp at the front of the church. Until we are able to open the student center and office area to visitors, anyone with accessibility concerns coming into the church over the next few weeks is asked to please let Sr. Mary or another attendant at the front entrance know that you require assistance getting into the church, and they will escort you to the elevator.

This past Thursday, Canadian Martyrs Church and Chaplaincy hosted the first lecture in our new series "Credible Catholicism." Fr. Paul Pearson introduced us to the Catholic view of the human person. If you missed the lecture, you can still catch the recording above.
This lecture series is pitched to Catholics of all ages and backgrounds, so we hope it is useful and instructive to you wherever you are in your journey of faith!
The next instalment of "Credible Catholicism" is on July 29th. We will hear a talk by Fr. Jason Kuntz on the Catholic view of who God is, and what we do when we do theology.

Long-time member of Canadian Martyrs Church, Nicholas Zaffiro, was featured in the Hamilton Spectator this weekend. In it, he shares the painful story of his father‘s unjust internment during the Second World War.

Novena
June 22—June 30, 2021
Act of Entrustment
July 1, 2021
As agreed by the Permanent Council of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops at its meeting of March 2021, and in solidarity with the Holy Father’s proclamation of a “Year of Saint Joseph”, we invite parishes and parishioners to celebrate an Act of Entrustment to Saint Joseph, on Thursday, 1 st July (Canada Day).
Parishioners can offer the Act of Entrustment to Saint Joseph at home. The Act of Entrustment will be preceded by a Novena imploring Saint Joseph’s intercession for the welfare of the entire country, for the many needs of society, and to pray in particular for those who passed away due to COVID-19. The Novena will begin on Tuesday, 22 June and end on Wednesday 30 June.

Marriages that have lasted over many years give gifts to future generations since it allows them to both look back and grow forward. Long- lasting marriages are a living example of what it means to have enduring love; they give hope. Marriage is at the heart of family, so celebrate your marriage milestones – tell stories of the good times, the times you persevered and the joy of older love. These are important legacies to leave your children and grandchildren!
