CHURCH NEWS:
We had some technical issues last week which prevented us from sending out last weekend's community update. We hope it didn't disrupt your weekend routine!
As you can see, we've got it all sorted now, but we want to also mention, in case you hadn't yet heard, that the Weekly Community Update will now be sent out each Sunday morning at 8:00 am!  All you early risers getting up and at 'em for Mass at 9:30 am will still have time to get all the church & chaplaincy news for the coming week!
Although we are currently open for Mass at limited numbers, we have members of our faith community who aren't able to attend Mass or other events at the church. And while watching live-streamed Masses from other parishes can be novel for a while, there truly is no place like home.

For this reason, we have been looking into the possibility of live-streaming Masses from Canadian Martyrs! There are many factors that affect our ability to do this, from Diocesan requirements to people-power!

If you have any knowledge or experience in live-streaming or any interest in assisting us in bringing our Church experience to our community and others, we'd love to hear from you!  Please call 905-528-4632, ext 2, or email to let us know!

One thing we've learned throughout the challenges of the past year is that we can accomplish anything when we pull together. Help us to share our message and the message of Christ!

Please email us if you or someone you know might be able to help! We look forward to hearing from you!
To the benefactors of our Faith community, we'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of our Church and its endeavours. On Friday, March 5, the daily Mass was offered for your intentions.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Frank Granby, who passed in early February. May they be consoled in their faith, and may he be at peace in the company of all the saints.
Today's reflection! Find it here!
Our mission continues!  Great thanks to all for your continuing contributions, especially those who have signed up for recurring donations through our website.  We continue to need your support.  For those who prefer to donate through weekly envelopes, these can be dropped off at Mass on Sunday, or to the office trailer mailbox, between 11 am & 4 pm, on Wednesdays or Saturdays.
Teresa Hartnett (Director of Family Ministry Office of the Diocese of Hamilton) graciously shared some insightful and practical advice on managing stress at the Walking Through Covid event. She reminded us of the priority of engaging our bodies through good sleep, nutrition, and exercise and making the most of our social connections to talk through difficulties and find help in the areas in which we struggle. She also pointed out that we have the power to make decisions, and we can choose how we view, interact with, and live our lives. The students expressed their gratitude for the tips as they continue to navigate the stresses of school and isolation and for the support of this community.

Dr. Norm Klassen, a Professor of English at St. Jerome's University, and a long-time member of our faith community was the guest lecturer at an event held on March 5 by Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College.

Check out his lecture: Is Reality Knowable? on youtube!

The author of two books on Chaucer and the co-author of another on higher education, he is intrigued by two paradoxes within Catholic thought and formation. One is the relationship between Christianity and culture; the other is that between love and reason.
On Thursday, our community welcomed three incredible panellists to take on challenging questions at Stump the Catholic. Questions ranging from what happens in the afterlife to how to hear God’s voice in prayer were answered from three unique Catholic perspectives. We are so grateful for the wisdom and enrichment each of them brought!

Your name?
Mary L.

How long have you been a member of our faith community?
Since 2019

How did you choose Canadian Martyrs, and what do you like most about being part of this community?
I was drawn towards the kind and loving people in MACSA. One thing I love about Canadian Martyrs is the community's liveliness in forming disciples of Christ — there are always activities to be involved in!

Your favourite food?
I love all foods far too much to have a favourite!

Favourite movie or book?
One of my all-time favourite movies is Spirited Away.

Tell us a boring (or interesting!) fact about you?
I prefer warm or room temperature water unless it's a very hot day.
The theme of this week's update is "Lights!". Much of the lighting has now been installed throughout!

Conscience Rights in Ontario: A Crucial Moment for Healthcare Professionals

Over the last several years, doctors and healthcare professionals have been fighting to have their individual conscience rights recognized by both the Federal and Provincial governments. An Angus Reid poll last year found that 80% of Ontarians favour conscience rights legislation to protect healthcare providers from having to violate their conscience when caring for a patient.
