29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Food Drive for Ronald McDonald House • Meet the Flock • Cornerstone Project • World Mission Day • Ask Yourself • MACSA this week

The One Heart, One Soul Campaign is in full swing at Canadian Martyrs!

Don't miss this Sunday's Mass, as Fr. Markus will be providing an exciting update on the progress of our campaign!

Q. Why are we doing the campaign? With the virus, shouldn’t we be focused on other priorities?
A. From the beginning, this campaign has been primarily about strengthening our parishes. Because of the pandemic, our parishes have even greater needs than when we started. Because the campaign is in place, we are in a better position than almost any diocese in North America to help our parishes recover from the blows suffered from COVID-19. The campaign offers parishes the opportunity to better fulfill their missions. There is no greater priority than that.

For a full list of FAQs and much more about the campaign, visit www.oneheartonesoul.ca.
Food Drive for Ronald McDonald House
A reminder that if you are attending Mass tomorrow, and are able to, we are accepting donations on Sunday, October 18 for non-perishable goods in support of Ronald McDonald House. They could particularly use:
  • Granola bars
  • Halloween treats
  • Canned and Mr. Noodle type soups, and
  • Single-serve bottles of apple juice
Thank you in advance for your support of this valuable outreach in our local community!
Continued thanks to Lucy from Main Street West Fortinos who provides us with beautiful seasonal florals, and to Kathy who faithfully tends the arrangements and keeps them thriving!
Have you had a chance to see the latest fall arrangements? Conjures up feelings of harvest, hayrides and hot apple cider!
Meet the Flock
This week, learn a bit more about Sr. Mary, the devoted spiritual mother to our faith community!

Your name?
Sr. Mary
How long have you been a member of our faith community?
Since 2002 (18 years)
How did you choose Canadian Martyrs, and what do you like most about being part of this community?
Sister Rosanne and I moved into the neighbourhood intentionally so we could be part of Canadian Martyrs. I was already involved in retreat and spiritual direction ministry on campus. We enjoyed meeting and engaging in ministry and participating in Alpha with community members who are of a variety of ages and backgrounds.
Your favourite food?
Homemade bread of any kind.
Favourite movie or book?
A tie! My childhood favourites, Anne of Green Gables and the Little Women series. The deaths of Matthew and Beth still bring tears. Apologies for revealing plot lines!
Tell us a boring (or interesting!) fact about you?
I hiked the Chilkoot Trail from Alaska into the Yukon.
The window surrounds have arrived, and have started going up. This means that the work of installing the stone facade can really begin in earnest! Have you seen the latest video walkthrough on our website?
World Mission Day, or Mission Sunday, was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1926, to remind Catholics about their commitment and support to the missionary work of the Church through prayer and sacrifice.
Pope Francis' message for this year’s celebration is based on a theme taken from the Book of Isaiah, “Here am I, send me.” The Pope’s message says that the Covid-19 pandemic is an opportunity for mission and service to others. To read more, visit this link.
━ Ask Yourself...
Is it a time of reflection, relaxation and self-care? Does the thought come with an unwelcome feeling of obligation? Do you approach it with a plan, and purpose, or just dip in and out where it leads you?
 What a Saint Said...

“Give ... to God the things that are God’s.” That includes you! Is God calling you to service as a priest?  Contact Fr. Michael King, Vocation Director, Diocese of Hamilton at 905-528-7988 or vocations@hamiltondiocese.com.

If you would like to have a Mass celebrated for a special occasion, on behalf of a family member, a friend, or a deceased loved one, please call the office to have that intention put into the calendar.
