Dear Canadian Martyrs Community,

On behalf of my wife and family, I want to thank you all for the prayers, thoughts, kind words and mass offerings.  They were greatly appreciated in our time of mourning.  Know that all of you will be in our prayers.

Sincerely,
Deacon Joseph
Deacon Joseph introduced elements of the 'Transcendental Method’ by Fr. Bernard Lonergan S.J in his homily last weekend.

The Key points that Deacon Joseph made in his homily were the operations to Be Attentive, Be Intelligent, Be Reasonable and Be Responsible in our thinking and in our prayer.  Below is a short quote by Fr. Bernard Lonergan and a citation to Fr. Lonergan’s Method in Theology if one desires to do follow up study.

“Now in a sense everyone knows and observes transcendental method.  Everyone does so, precisely in the measure the he/she is attentive, intelligent, reasonable, responsible.”

Our condolences to the Herrera family upon the passing of their matriarch, Yolanda. May you always hold fond memories of her life with you. As time passes and life's routine returns, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Come help us invite people from the broader community to experience a moment of encounter with the Lord by lighting a candle for a loved one! Volunteers meet at Canadian Martyrs Church at 5:00pm  no prior experience necessary. See you there!

An invitation is extended to McMaster medical & nursing students to join the Guild for their November meeting!

The guild will be welcoming speakers from the local L’Arche community to talk about the legacy of Jean Vanier and the world wide L’Arche community that he founded.

Jean Vanier, who recently died, whose life work with the mentally challenged, restored a life of dignity to them also brought to light the spiritual lessons they can teach us. The L’Arche communities  around the world carry on this work.

PURGATORY.

THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS IN ONTARIO sponsor Coats-For-Kids, providing brand new winter coats for children who need them. It is a program that has grown exponentially since it began a few years ago. Hundreds of coats will be distributed in the schools over the coming few weeks to assure that children are warm during the winter months. A worthy effort!

THE BISHOP’S DINNER for the Halton Catholic Children’s Education Foundation (HCCEF) takes place next Wednesday at Le Dome Banquet Hall in Oakville. It is always a joy-filled, noisy, gathering. The event provides the opportunity for local businesses and educational institutions to support the Foundation which assures that all children can participate in extra-curricular school activities – a noble cause indeed!

When coffee was first brought to Christian Europe, it was greeted with a great deal of suspicion, and considered a drink of the infidels. Those close to Pope Clement VIII  advised him to denounce the delicious brew. Legend has it that upon tasting it, he said "This devil’s drink is delicious. We should cheat the devil by baptizing it.” Read more about it here!
