20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

...even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.
Testimony: Natalie C.
A past McMaster student and MACSA member, Natalie is currently a nurse, working on the front lines during this pandemic. Listen as she chats with Sister Mary about the gift and privilege it has been, and how her faith has informed her experience.

Annual Tri-Chaplaincy Leadership Summit
On August 1st, 27 McMaster student leaders remotely attended the annual Tri-Chaplaincy Leadership Summit, along with the universities of Guelph and Waterloo/Laurier. Despite the Fall semester being online, these leaders remain enthusiastic and dedicated to bringing Jesus to the students of McMaster. The Leadership Summit equipped them with practical advice on relational ministry and evangelization and sparked creative ideas for effective online ministry. Please keep these leaders in your prayers as they continually strive to grow in holiness and as missionaries on campus (and on Zoom).

Ask Yourself...

Does your choice of friends matter to your faith? What would be the best things about having people around you that share your beliefs and values?
What might be the positives about having people around you that might challenge you?

A Solid Foundation

All of our foundations have been shaken these past few weeks. Our jobs, everyday routines, and security have been shaken at their very core. But we have a choice during this time - will we build our lives on a foundation that is easily shaken or on a foundation that is solid and true? God’s love is a foundation worth building on and one that can withstand anything that comes against it. Take a moment and pray these words over your own life and the lives of those who desperately need the firm foundation of God’s love.

How do we believe in a God who allows evil, tragedy, suffering, and disasters? Don't forget, God never promised an unchallenged life. He promised us hope:

“and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Romans 5:5).

And to be with us, always, unwavering, throughout it all.

There does not seem to be an official number, but it exceeds 10,000. Of course, any person who enters heaven is a saint, by definition, so it is certain the number of actual saints in existence is much greater than the number recognized by the Church.

So now you know!

Pope's August Prayer Intention: The Maritime World

In his prayer intention for the month of August, Pope Francis calls us to "pray for all those who work and live from the sea, among them sailors, fishermen and their families."

The life of sailors or fishermen and their families is very difficult.
Sometimes they are victims of forced labor or are left behind in distant ports.
The competition of industrial fishing and the problem of pollution make their work even more complicated.
Without the people of the sea, many parts of the world would starve.
Let us pray for all those who work and live from the sea, among them sailors, fishermen and their families.

- Pope Francis, August 2020

It takes faith to hear God’s call in our lives and sometimes it may not be what we expect. Is God calling you to life as priest?  Contact Fr. Michael King, Vocation Director, Diocese of Hamilton at 905-528-7988 or vocations@hamiltondiocese.com.

If you would like to have a Mass celebrated for a special occasion, on behalf of a family member, a friend, or a deceased loved one, please call the office to have that intention put into the calendar.
