Third Rite of Scrutiny
The Third Rite of Scrutiny is the final of three rites celebrated during Lent for those preparing for baptism at the Easter Vigil. It typically takes place on the Fifth Sunday of Lent and is meant to strengthen the catechumens in their journey toward full initiation into the Church. Like the previous scrutinies, this rite includes prayers of intercession and exorcism, calling on God to purify the elect from sin and strengthen them against evil.
