International Women’s Day
On International Women’s Day, we take a moment to reflect on the remarkable contributions of women, who, throughout history, have played an essential role in building families, communities, and the Church. The Catholic faith has always held women in high regard, recognizing their inherent dignity as daughters of God, created in His image.
While the Church teaches the equality of all people in dignity before God, we must also humbly acknowledge that, at times, women’s full participation and recognition have not been fully embraced. Catholic Social Teaching calls us to always strive toward justice and to ensure that all people, regardless of gender, can fully contribute to the life of the Church and society. As Catholics, we are called to reflect on the words of Christ, who raised up women and valued their voices, such as the women who followed Him and were the first to witness the resurrection.
Today, we continue to honor the women who have shaped our faith and our world, recognizing that their gifts—as leaders, educators, healers, innovators, and caregivers—are essential to the flourishing of the Church and society. On this day, let us pray for the grace to grow in our understanding of equality and justice, and commit to building a world where every woman is treated with the dignity and respect she deserves.
