In June, the federal government passed new legislation making September 30th a national statutory holiday commemorating National Day for Peace and Reconciliation. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation commemorates the history and ongoing trauma caused by residential schools and is intended to honour the survivors, families and communities who continue to grieve for those who were lost.

At the direction of His Excellency, Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, every Parish in the Diocese of Hamilton is to celebrate Mass on this day for the intentions of peace and reconciliation.

Let us continue to pray for the healing of our nation and in particular for Reconciliation between the Indigenous People and all citizens of Canada.
