CONFIRMATION
If you are an adult who is seeking more information on how to become a member of the Catholic Church, or if you are a baptized Catholic who never received Confirmation, see our section on RCIA.
If your child is approaching seventh grade, or is a little older; we want to continue to assist you in raising your child in the faith and prepare them to make their faith their own. Below are some of the frequently asked questions to help you understand the process of having your child confirmed.

At a minimum, your child must:
be baptized in the Catholic Church, or another Christian denomination recognized by the Catholic Church. Basically, they must have been baptized with water and “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
have received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation should have taken place along with First Holy Communion. If your child has not received one or both of these sacraments, contact us for more information.

Confirmation is celebrated with children who are in Grade 7 and who have completed a program of immediate sacramental preparation. If your child is a student at Canadian Martyrs Elementary, you will receive information regarding confirmation when it is time.

Confirmation is always celebrated during Mass at a time determined in consultation with the Bishop’s Office.

Every person being confirmed must have a sponsor. To be a sponsor, you must:
be at least 16 years or older
have received Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation
be an active practising Catholic and be registered at a Catholic Church
not be the parent of the one being confirmed
