26th Sunday in Ordinary Time

...later he changed his mind and went.

ADORATION
We are pleased to let you know that for the month of October, we will be having Adoration every Saturday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm!
ONE-ON-ONE WITH JESUS
Still not sure about attending Mass? Well, we want you to invite you to come and get the lay of the land! We are now booking appointments online or by phone for those who have not yet been able to join us on the weekend. Visit the church, receive Holy Communion, encounter the Lord!

Click the link above or on our website to make an appointment!
You attend Mass every weekend...  or maybe only once in a while. You've been attending for years... or maybe only weeks. Either way, how connected do you really feel to the people in the pew nearest you? And how comfortable do newcomers to our faith community feel, in entering into a faith journey with us? These are questions we hope to address in this new series we like to call "Meet the Flock". Every week we hope to feature someone from the community in our newsletter and on our socials. We want to get a little insight into who we are and how we can relate to one another. And, to newcomers to our community or to our faith, we want to present relatable and welcoming snapshots of Catholics who are people too. Not intimidating, but ordinary human people walking their path, getting dust on their feet, as Jesus did.
So, this week, we start with our Shepherd, Fr. Markus!

Name: Fr. Bradley Thomas Markus
How long have you been a member of our faith community: 5 years
Favourite food: In Westdale, The Express’s Fettuccini Alfredo with Chicken. Mmmmm.
Favourite book or movie: Road House
Tell us a boring (or interesting) fact about you: My family has generational ties to the Indigenous people here in Ontario (perhaps even those who were evangelized by the Canadian Martyrs)
How did you choose Canadian Martyrs, and what do you like most about being part of this community?: We are a community always changing; always welcoming and always sending, and being dynamically disciples of Christ, never a dull moment!

TRILLIUM AWARD
Canadian Martyrs has been selected as a recipient of the Trillium Award of Excellence for 2020!
The Trillium Awards program promotes community pride by recognizing those who, by landscaping and maintaining their gardens, contribute to a more attractive neighbourhood and community.
This weekend, we are of One Heart and One Soul!
It’s Kickoff Weekend! The One Heart, One Soul Campaign is being featured at the Masses, and you soon will receive a mailing that offers much more information on Canadian Martyrs' projects, the diocesan ministries that benefit and how each parish will be helping other parishes in the diocese. Be watching for the mailing, and if you hear from a fellow parishioner about the campaign, please welcome their call! For the full list of FAQs and much more about the campaign, visit www.oneheartonesoul.ca.

Q. How can I make a gift or pledge to the campaign?
A. There will be a number of ways to make a gift or make payments on your pledge to the campaign, including:
•    Setting up a pre-authorized gift (automatic withdrawal) from a chequing account
•    Setting up a recurring credit card payment
•    Paying by cash or cheque through the mail
•    Making a stock or securities transfer
CORNERSTONE PROJECT

After weeks of looking kind of like a giant gingerbread house, the stone exterior is going up!  There's also a lot of progress being made on the interior that we can't readily see from the outside. You'd have to check out Fr. Markus' walkthrough videos to see that! You can find them all  on our website!
━ Ask Yourself...
Sure, it's full of good morals, standards, and ethics, but why do you do it?
How often do you think you've asked yourself this most basic question?
Acts of service borne of love, not duty or obligation...

National Catholic Healthcare Week
From October 4 to 10, we celebrate National Catholic Health Care Week across Canada. The Week recognizes the inspiring work of Catholic health care organizations in our province and across Canada. At the heart of Catholic health care is a deep respect for the intrinsic value and dignity of every human being and an unwavering commitment to serving all people, from all backgrounds and faiths—especially society’s most vulnerable.
During National Catholic Health Care Week, we give thanks for the courageous gift of Catholic health care during these challenging times—in hospitals, community health centers, or seniors care homes.
For more information about Catholic health care in Canada or the week, please visit the Catholic Health Alliance of Canada website at www.chac.ca

The invitation to serve often comes more than once; are you prepared with your answer? Consider ministry as a priest. Are you being invited?  Contact Fr. Michael King, Vocation Director, Diocese of Hamilton at 905-528-7988 or vocations@hamiltondiocese.com.

To the benefactors of our Faith community, we thank you for your gifts to our Church and its endeavours.
On Friday, October 2, the daily Mass will be gratefully offered for your intentions!
If you would like to have a Mass celebrated for a special occasion, on behalf of a family member, a friend, or a deceased loved one, please call the office to have that intention put into the calendar.
