Ascension Sunday last week was an exciting day for Rachel Andrews, a member of our faith community. Some of you may recognize Rachel from her participation at the 11:30 Sunday Mass where she serves as an usher. Rachel has been part of the RCIA group that has been meeting with the SLT for the past number of months, so that she might complete her sacraments of initiation with Confirmation and Eucharist. Bishop Crosby recently clarified that we are able to celebrate these sacraments during the current pandemic, provided we follow all provincial regulations and recommendations. Last Sunday Rachel received the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation. It was a joyous occasion. After being Confirmed, Rachel turned around and gave her sponsor Karen the thumbs up! She shared that she felt so supported through the whole experience. Let us continue to support Rachel and the other candidates with our prayers in their journey of encounter with the Lord.
On a beautiful day last week, Sr. Mary spoke with Tracy, Greg and their kids about their experiences at Canadian Martyrs before the lock-down, what they miss, and how they are pivoting a bit to experience their faith now in different but equally enriching ways.
To the benefactors of our Faith community, we'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of our Church and its endeavours, especially now that all our resources, both physical and financial are undergoing some level of strain.
On Friday, June 5, the daily mass will be gratefully offered for your intentions.

 We are extending last week's 10% tithe to Good Shepherd to include this week's collection! The Good Shepherd simply has so many care initiatives within the community that we feel moved to donate to them even more fully. Inspired by the Hospitality of St. John of God and rooted in Catholic teachings, Good Shepherd provides person-centred health, housing, and human services. In case you missed the video last week, be sure to click above to watch Sr. Mary give a small introduction to some of their facilities found here in downtown Hamilton, just about a 5-minute drive from Canadian Martyrs!

If you donate online, please be sure to check your junk mail if you haven't received your charitable receipt, as they sometimes get directed there by your email provider.

If you are unable to donate online, you can drop off your envelopes in the mailbox at the Church office on Tuesday between  1 -3 pm, or Thursday morning, from 10 am - 12 pm.

Be Uplifted!
Jesus didn’t come to leave us with fear. He didn’t leave us with condemnation or retribution. Jesus left us with peace. But He didn’t just leave us with any peace, He left us with HIS peace. Eternal peace. Heavenly peace. This peace is nothing like the “peace” the world gives, which is really just peace with a false promise. Not only did Jesus give us peace, but He also instructed us to not let our hearts be troubled and to not be afraid. How? How do we, in the overwhelming fear, possibly experience peace and not be afraid? We experience peace through following the Prince of Peace. The One who gives us peace freely, and not the peace that the world promises, but peace rooted in who Jesus is.

The Gregorian calendar is used by almost the entire world and was developed under the direction of Pope Gregory XIII, and introduced in 1582. It was created because the  Julian calendar (established and developed by the Romans) was slightly miscalculated, which meant that Easter, arguable the most significant observance in the Catholic faith, was moving farther away from the Spring Equinox with every passing year. Today, May 30, Pope Francis is presiding at the recitation of the rosary from a variety of Marian Shrines worldwide. “The Pope will once again be close to humanity in prayer, to ask the Virgin Mary for help amid the pandemic.” The prayer will be broadcast live to the world from the Grotto of Lourdes in the Vatican Gardens at 5:30 p.m. Rome time. (12:30 p.m. EDT). A blessed initiative!
