New Liturgical Year

The First Sunday in Advent is the beginning of the new Liturgical Year. The Scriptures take us through the Liturgical Year on a three-year cycle. The Church designates readings to be used for each day on this three-year cycle.  We look at Jesus and our own lives through the Gospel of Matthew (Cycle A), Mark (Cycle B) and Luke (Cycle C). This new liturgical year, the Sunday readings are from Year B which focuses primarily on the Gospel of Mark.

Another way we mark the new liturgical year is through the use of a new Proclamation of Faith in the Mass after the Consecration. This Sunday we will respond with the words, “When we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your death O Lord, until you come again.”
