April Stewardship Call: Legacy Gifts
Lent probably seems a long time ago, but it was a time of simplicity and little decorative elements in the sanctuary. What a joy when the lights came on Holy Saturday during the singing of the Gloria and all the beauty of the gold-hued candelabra was revealed. The sanctuary shone with the light of the tall candles in their beautiful stands as they surrounded the altar. The Easter candle was resplendent in its holder, with the abundance of lilies and hydrangeas to set it off. I recalled with gratitude the generosity of two of our deceased community members who left bequests to Canadian Martyrs for the purchase of these liturgical items that we now get to enjoy. They honour the celebration of the Eucharist which brings us together as a community. This subject matter for our monthly stewardship call is a little different this time, but perhaps this is something for members of our present community and alumni to consider in their own long-term estate planning; the inclusion of a bequest, however large or small, for Canadian Martyrs Church. Former pastors have also left bequests in memory of their time of service. Something to think about!
